Server data recovery
Logical damage to file servers is primarily caused by power outages that prevent file system structures from being completely written to the storage medium, but problems with hardware (especially RAID controllers) and drivers, as well as system crashes, can also have the same effect. The result is that the file system is left in an unpredictable state. This can cause a variety of problems, such as strange behaviour such as infinitely recurring directories, drives reporting negative amounts of free space, system crashes, or an actual loss of data. However, don’t despair, server data recovery programs exist to correct these inconsistencies, and most operating systems come with at least a rudimentary repair tool for their basic file systems. Intratec has been carrying out server data recovery since its inception in the year 2000, and has plenty of experience in such failures.
Some kinds of logical file server damage can be mistakenly attributed to physical damage. For example, when a hard drive's read/write head begins to click, most end-users will associate this with internal physical damage. However this is not always the case. It is also possible that the firmware of the drive or its controller needs to be rebuilt during server data recovery in order to make the data accessible again. A well-known phrase frequently used by naval aviators is “Never assume anything” – the same can be said for server data recovery. When in doubt, leave it to the experts. If you suspect a data loss problem with one of your file servers, contact one of Intratec’s technicians for assistance.
