File Recovery
A quick Google search for "file recovery" will tell you that there are plenty of free file recovery programs available on the Internet. If you have accidentally deleted files and you know a little bit about computers, it may well be worth your while downloading one or more of these free programs and attempting to retrieve the deleted files yourself. We don't advise you to try this unless you do know your way around a computer though. It's a different matter when your computer suffers a complete hard drive failure. There are usually symptoms that appear before a hard drive crashes, especially when it is a mechanical failure such as the motor or the read/write head failing. That's usually when you have to contact the professionals.
When a hard drive fails it's possible that you haven't actually lost any data at all - you just cannot access it, and that's where a file recovery company like Intratec comes to your rescue. In our offices (they are situated in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban) we have all of the latest equipment and software to enable us to crack the problem and get that data back for you. It's possible that you may have to purchase a new hard drive, especially if the problem is a mechanical failure, but that's better than losing all of your data for ever. Data and file recovery is a professional job that often has to be carried out in a clean room - you'd be surprised how dust can contaminate a hard drive!
